How do I make myself into an accountant? John Smith 03-25-2007

I used to think that accounting was a bland and disposessed of the
purposefull challenges which are the hallmarks of the military, teaching,
and medicine. Purpsefull challenge is over rated. If a person can perform
a public service, that is an equally compelling virtue. Now I'm tingling
with the thrill of interpreting accounting figures to buisness men and
women.

I got my math degree in from MIT in 2001 and I want advice on how to turn my
talent with numbers into a career. Is the CMA exam the first step I need to
take from here? Do I need to take classes or is my degree enough to get me
through the exam?

Are there any firms out there that would hire me and put me into an
internship program and give me the training that I need?

Since I graduated I've been a research assistant in a molecular biology lab
and a medic with the US Army Rangers.

How can I get started in the accounting field with what I've got right now?

Before you start "tingling with thrill" you might want to see if you
actually like accounting work.
Try taking a few accounting courses at a local college first, your math
degree is not enough!
(but it's a start)
