Greetings to all,
I have an elderly client who held a large number of shares in Georgia
Pacific which last year was bought out for cash and need to find a
basis. We do not know when the stocks were purchased, but probably in
the seventies. The broker has records only into the nineties. Allowing
for stock splits it would have taken only a few dozen shares to have
generated the holding so it would be difficult to isolate the purchase
in bank records. Georgia Pacific no longer exists so there is no
stockholder services dept. to go to for information. I suspect records
of ownership still exist, but getting access to them is the problem.
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Bob Taylor
