I am preparing a trial balance for the middle of the month, and
several accounts have zero balances. Mostly temporary accounts like
expenses. Should these be included on the trial balance? Thanks a
lot,

Theoretically I would say "no".
The purpose of a trial balance is to "see what happened" and analyze
for errors. We don't need to see what "didn't happen but could have".
:)
Too many zeros and data redundancy would piss of the IT dept. and
convolute the report.
