I am looking for an accounting package for 3 users.

Can I install a single user package on a server and access via PC? OR
should I look for something else.

Please help. Thanks.

P.S. Between the Quickbooks and Peachtree, which is better?

>From an accounting perspective I have a preference for Peachtree. It
behaves like an accounting would expect a program to work. QuickBooks
is widely used, more so from the perspective of a non-accounting user.
I tried QuickBooks first. Having used a number of other programs in my
career, I had mild frustration with QuickBooks. I tried Peachtree and
kept it.

The major negative I have with QuickBooks is that its import format is
proprietary. Peachtree can import simple text files (when laid out
correctly). For me that was a huge reason. I build my monthly journal
entries in Excel. I didn't want to have to rekey those transactions
after having keyed them into the JE forms.

>From a technical perspective I believe either will do what you want. I
had Peachtree files on my server and the two users accessed it.

Which one should I buy? Peachtree acounting or Peachtree Complete
Accounting?

I will have 3 users that would access these files. One user primarily
used to key data and the other two to view reports (data would be
stored on SBS 2003 server).

Will Peachtree accounting single user work?

Thanks.

Single version is just that SINGLE. It might be installed on multiple
machines, but only one user can access at a time. I do not see that as
a workable solution for 3 people. You have to use the Complete version
to get multi-user. I think that have a 3-user pack that gives better
pricing.

Single-user license is just the license . . . so they could still use
Peachtree Accounting - they'd just need to buy 3 copies of it :^) I
personally prefer Peachtree Complete (it's been so long I can remember whe
the feature difference is between the two) - and we always purchase the
Multi-User Pack, which (I believe is still) a site license - allowing you to
install PT on as many machines as you wish, but I believe it caps out at 5
concurrent users . . .

And no problem using PT with an SBS network. All you want to do is create a
share on the server, and have your workstations map a drive letter (e.g. P:)
to that share . . . you can even do that via your login script so it
happens automatically for users when they log in. Once you have your drive
mapped, start the Peachtree install and choose the network option. When
prompted, change the path for the company data files to your mapped drive.
Repeat for each install on each PC, and you're good to go . . .
