Hi Gang,

I am not a Peachtree expert by any means, in fact I've never used it.
I am however a computer repairman and am trying to get a client's copy
of Peachtree 2005 upgraded to the 2007 Complete edition. Before I got
here several attempts at upgrading were made without my presence. I
have not seen the error messages they received as of yet, but I already
can see a huge problem: they have 3 copies of the program installed on
their system:
C:Program FilesPeachtree
C:Program FIlesPeacht~1
C:Documents and SetttingsOwnerMy DocumentsPeachtree

The "Peacht~1" folder was incomplete and after differencing it with the
other two copies I determined that it was unecessary. However, what
I'd really like to know if in what subfolder or typical location is a
user's data files and what file extensions do they have. I need to
consolidate this situation to one copy before installing, yet again.

Thanks,
Christian Blackburn

The program is typically installed to C:Program FilesPeachtree or
C:Peachtree. If there are multiple programs installed then they might name
the install folder Peachtree 2005 in order to distinquish the program
versions installed.

The user files are located in a subfolder called Company. Each company
created will have a subfolder created for that company. The files have a DAT
extension. There are also a few txt files that are also required.
Version.txt for example is needed in order to open the company file.

Hi Laura,

Thank you very much for your help. I recognize the dat files and the
text files you've mentioned, I'll pay special attention to their care.

Thanks,
Christian

Hi Laura,

There are a number of loose files in the Peachtreecompany folder, in
addition there is a quadryme subfolder within the company folder.
Both of which contain numerous files. Any ideas which or if all of it
is user data files? Sometimes programs ship with sample data (Possibly
in the company parent folder) other times applications improve their
data structure (perhaps in 2005 or prior versions the company folder
loosly contained one company and today the companies are stored in
unique subfolders).

Thanks,
Christian Blackburn

In my 2005 PeachtreeCompany folder I have the following files:
Pchshell.hlp, Readme.hlp, bulletin.hlp
Status.dat
Plan.dat
versinfo.txt
taxtable.tax, taxinfo.tax, taxinfo.dat, taxtable.dat (I have the payroll tax
subscription)
errorlog.txt

The "sample" file for 2005 is contained in a "BCS" subfolder.

PT will name the company subfolder by using the first 3 characters of the
first word of the company's name + the first 3 characters from the 2nd word
+ the first 2 charactors from the 3rd word. Using that info, someone
created a company file where the company name is qua??? dry??? me???. Does
that ring a bell?
