Peachtree Problem... is this true? Matt 12-10-2007

We're running Peachtree Complete 2005 at the moment and were planning to
switch to Quickbooks for 2008 because it intergrates with several POS
systems we are considering for our stores. Naturally I've had a ton of
Peachtree reps calling me because I haven't upgraded yet, and the last one
that called told me that if I wanted to run W2's and 1099's at the end of
the year I would have to upgrade to 2008 tax tables and since I'm running
2005 I'd have to upgrade my software as well.

Is this true? This sounds insane to me... why wouldn't this be included with
the 2007 tax tables?

It is true for those using V2006 and above, however, you should be OK with
2005 except you may have to manually adjust your W2 to fit the 2007 forms.

BTW: Quickbooks does the same thing.

Thank you for the enlightening information... seems as though both companies
are evil to me :-)

We had the payroll subsctiption for V2006 this year but won't be renewing it
for 2008. In the past I have been able to download the payroll tax updates
for versions without the payroll subscription. Will I get the preprinted
2007 w-2 & 1099 forms with the January update? I can deal with the
preprinted forms if thats all I have access to. The V2006 client is not in a
position to renew the payroll subscription for 2008. Any other options?

No you won't get the W2's and 1099's. The tax subscription expires November
30th so only if you renew will you get the new forms. If you still have the
"Unsupported" W2's and 1099 forms in V2006 you can use them. I haven't yet
looked at this years forms, so if they have physically changed, you may need
to customize the forms.
