when closing out 2006 (in peachtree ver a few yrs old), the 1st period of
the 2007 year is only 2 days

period 1 = Jan 1-Jan 2
period 2 = Jan 3-Feb 28

the rest of the year seems ok

how to fix this so period 1 = Jan 1-Jan 31?

Try running Data Verification to see if that corrects things. You might
restore the backup made when you started the year end wizard and run the DV
utility on that file. Then rerun the year-end process.
