Hi,
I've just been volunteered to be on a church finance committee. I know
nothing about accounting but I'm good with spreadsheets (for statistics and
other data crunching). The church uses OWP ver 4.? (I think 4.6, but not
sure). The church has it installed on one computer but I'd like to get a
copy so I can learn it at home (can't find original disks).

I'm just wondering if anyone knows
1. can I get an old copy of OWP?
2. will a new version be compatible?
3. would a newer version offer more report writing for budget and EOY, etc?
4. any chance Peachtree might donate a package to a small church?

Thanks in advance,
Scout

Peachtree is a good program.
I've used, supported & installed it with much success.
But, it does require some bookeeping accounting knowledge.

Peachtree versions are downward compatible.
That is if you have ver 4 & you copy/backup the data & transfer it to a
computer that has a newer version, it can read the data. But it doesn't
work the other direction.

I can't honestly reccomend that you use such an old version of the program
at this time.
And I wouldn't hold my breath hoping for Peachtree to give a freebee.

One Write Plus is no longer being produced by Peachtree (Sage) as of 2005:
http://www.peachtree.com/onewrite/owpretirement.cfm

The current versions of Peachtree CAN convert OWP version 8 so you need to
find a copy of that program and upgrade to version 8. Then you can decide if
you want to upgrade to a currently supported version of Peachtree.

Alternatively you could start with your Trial balance from OWP 4 and create
a brand new company file. Staples frequently has a rebate program for
Accounting Pro that gives you the program for free. Many of these copies are
currently up on eBay. Depending on how up to date their computer is PT 2007
may be too much for their computer to handle so you probably should look for
a copy of Accounting Pro 2006.

Thank you Laura (and Benjamin),
After reading your advice, I think I should suggest a complete break from
OWP and perhaps go with Accounting Pro 2006.

Do you know if Accounting Pro would be able to give us line item breakdowns
for income and expenses (sorry if my terminology is wrong) so that I can
distribute these reports to various committees for budget proposals? For
instance, would I be able to print out just the expenses, line item
specific, for the Property Management Committee? And would it be able to
produce a report that I could use to present to a congregation that would
include a list of Accounts with Budget and Actual figures?

Again, I thank you so much for this help!

You can create customized Income statements that would suit your needs. Not
that difficult.
