I've just purchased the 2008 upgrade ( moving from 2005 ) and I'm thinking I
don't want to eliminate my old version before I get a chance to test this
new one. Has anyone tried a clean install ( different dir/ or even different
drive/dir/ )?

I have an XP peer to peer, 4 user, network with one peer serving as central
server... but that machine has less than 512MB of ram. My laptop is 2GB, and
also has 4 other company files that are not utilized via the network. If I
do a standard install on my lap unit first... I lose the ability to utilize
the networked company files... thus my delimma. Do you think it's possible
to have both versions on the SAME computer?

Yes, you can install the new version in a different location, however once
you convert your data files to 2008 you won't be able to use them in 2005.
The other issue is the 2008 uses a newer database engine which you will have
to temporarily turn off (from the system tray) before you can switch to the
2005.
