Is it possible to increase the length of the serial number field?

We use some very long serials and the software will not accept the whole of
the serial number.

You can try testing on a demo database but I am pretty sure that RMS will not
like your changes. I know from experience that if you did the same thing with
the ILC or Description fields this will cause RMS to crash.
