I've searched extensively within this group for answers to our problem
and although many have posted identical problems none of the solutions
that have worked for them are working for us.
We have downloaded and installed the latest Epson OPOS drivers and have
configured our parallel port receipt printer, the Epson TM-U200PD, as
many of the other TM-U200 and TM-U220 models since the TM-U200PD is not
one of the specific models listed. For example, we now have it
configured using the TM-U200B selection. We also have configured the
APG cash drawer. Using the Health Check in the Epson OPOS both printer
and cash drawer work.
But when we ring up a transaction witn RMS 1.3 POS, the drawer will not
open.
Yes, the available tender types are all set to pop the drawer.
Yes, the proper LDN names are being used in the register set up.
Yes, we have tried all possible choices for BIOS parallel port settings
on this Dell 8300 including PS/2, AT. ECP, and EPP.
Yes, I have tried increasing the pulse time from 100ms to 200ms to
500ms.
Interestingly, although the receipt will print perfectly, as long as
the POS program remains open, subsequent health checks via the Epson
OPOS interface fail for both printer and cash drawer. When we click the
box to start the check, the program appears to timeout after several
seconds then displays an error code in a popup (instead of the success
message). If we close the POS program, the printer and cash drawer
again pass the heath checks.
Our customer is extremely happy with the appearance of the receipts
which are now legible and our only obstacle (at this point) is the cash
drawer not opening. If i configure RMS to use a Windows printer the
drawer will open but the receipts look terrible. As a result, as much
as possible, we would like to use the OPOS method rather than Windows
method to print.
Could our problem be due to the specific model TM-U200PD which does not
appear as one of the supported printers?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo in advance.

Mike,
Get the latest Epson driver, OPOS ADK 2.50E SP4.
Somebody mentioned here or on the reseller board that an older one worked,
the newer one didn't, then a newer, newer one did, and then Epson sent an
email today announcing the SP4 version. I know its confusing to me too!
I'll be nice this time about my Epson printer rant!

Please log in for more thread options Thanks, Jeff, for the response. I neglected to mention that I am, in
fact, already using OPOS ADK 2.50E SP4. As I recall, none of the
versions of 2.50E including pre SP, SP1, SP2, or SP4 seemed to make a
difference. With all versions, both the Epson receipt printer and the
APG cash drawer pass the heath check in the OPOS configuration
interface but still the cash drawer does not pop when a transaction is
tendered with RMS. When I called Epson for technical support (not
really knowing whether they could help) they (in so many words) told me
that since the devices work as they should with their OPOS tests it's
not a problem on their end. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Please log in for more thread options Did you download the latest OPOS ADK 2.50E SP2 release in 01/01/2006? I just
did and saw your printer, choose TM-U200D for com port, TM-U200DP for
parallel, and TM-U200DE for Networked.

Please log in for more thread options Thanks, Raymond. I will try to post those screenshots. Meanwhile,
perhaps the following will suffice?
In the Registers window for Register 1, only Printer 1 and Cash Drawer
1 are checked.
In the properties window for this register, under General tab:
Register number: 1
Description: Back Register
Default price level: Standard
Default carrier: <none>
Default service: <none>
Under Receipt printer 1 tab:
Print receipts automatically after each transaction <selected>
OPOS <selected>
OPOS device name: rpback
Journal receipts from this printer <checked>
Receipt format: Basic Receipt - 40
Under Recipt printer 2 tab:
Do not print receipts <selected>
all other objects greyed out
Under Scanner tab:
Scanner is enabled for this register <not checked>
Under Cash Drawer 1 tab:
Cash drawer 1 is enabled for this register <checked>
OPOS device name: cdback
Wait for drawer close <not checked>
In the Epson OPOS, in the Device tree, under the POS printer branch,
only one printer exists: TM-U200BP and in the right pane, only one LDN
name exists, rpback. Under the Cash drawer branch only one device
exists, StandardP, and in the right pane only one LDN, cdback.
Also, the printer is a TM-U200PD, not TM-U200D nor TM-U200DP. I have
tried OPOS ADK 2.50E without any service packs, with SP1, with SP2, and
with SP4 (what happened to SP3?) all with the same result, same
behavior.
As I mentioned earlier, because the TM-U200PD is not listed, I had to
choose various varieties of the U200, U210, and U220 that *are* listed.
Behavior among them varied from poor to where I am now which is a
printer that prints great but a cash drawer that won't pop.
Setting RMS to share the OPOS device has no effect on its behavior,
that is, the Epson OPOS health checks continue to fail as long as RMS
POS is open. Weird.
