Different Total for end of day sales report

I am currently using RMS 1.2 on a Windows XP/SP2 computer. My problem is
when i run various reports at the end of the day like Tender Summary and
Detailed Sales report to see the total sales for the day, neither one matches
my physical count. Can someone explain to me why i am getting this kind of
result? And what i can do to correct it or get the right information? Or
maybe i need a custom report to get an accurate total?

Tender summary and detailed sales reports will have different totals since
one (tender summary) includes all monies taken in, including taxes,
layaways, work orders, etc. While the other (detailed Sales) reports on
sales only.

Craig, Thanks for the quick respose.
We do not do layaways, work orders or anything else, just using as a basic
register. And there is not much returns per day, the most that will happen is
the cashier will cancel a transaction.

Now what you're saying is that the detailed sales report will give me an
accurate result in what should be in the register at the end of the day even
though the cashier cancel transation and process return occasionally right?
Or is there a custom report that will give me more accurate result?

Also, Would the Z report give me the same result as the detailed sales report?

there are also rounding issues.
