Error creating new item in RMS 3. RMS Rookie 12-17-2008

I get the following error when I try to add some new items.

"The Item Lookup Code must be unique".

If we search for the item, no records are found.

All items are active, (we got this error initially when some items had been
made inactive and we tried to add the same ILC as a new item).

There are 11,000 items in the msde SQL 2000 database and the usage
percentage is about 94%.

The database has been re-indexed with no change in this error.
Can the database be compacted to remove any excess data?

Is there potential damage to the database if we delete old items?

How can the database be repaired if there is damage?

Thanks for you help in advance.

Kent Smith

Kent - What is version of RMS are you running?

When you talk about the db size, are you referring to HQ or SO? Because
11,000+ items is not a large item db, I am wondering if your db's log file
was truncated at inception. Do you know? Did you create your environment?

As for your items - have you done an extensive db search against your ILC?
Is it possible that you have the item already used in an an alias?

You need to be more concerned with the database size, which can be a maximum of
2 gig for MSDE, 4 gig for SQL 2005 Express, both which shipped free with RMS.
The size is unlimited with all other versions of SQL Server. To find out what
version you have, look in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Q1 When you talk about the db size, are you referring to HQ or SO?
A1 Store Operations.

Because
11,000+ items is not a large item db, I am wondering if your db's log file
was truncated at inception.

Q2 Do you know
A2 No.

Q3 Did you create your environment?
A3 The original RMS SO was installed about 2 or 3 years ago and I performed
that original install.

Q4 As for your items - have you done an extensive db search against your ILC?
A4 Yes. Both with SOM and also directly via Admin SQL query.

Q5 Is it possible that you have the item already used in an an alias?
A5 I don't belive so, When I run an Alias report, the result is no records.

Try using the Find button and select All. As Jocelyn mentioned, its probably
an Alias, which is at the very bottom on the Find button list.

Anwer: I have tried this and have not found any alias, substitute, or other
record with the same ILC.

94% means that the last time the database grew, you have used 94% of that.

You need to be more concerned with the database size, which can be a maximum
of 2 gig for MSDE, 4 gig for SQL 2005 Express, both which shipped free with
RMS. The size is unlimited with all other versions of SQL Server.

To find out what version you have, look in Add/Remove Programs in the
Control Panel.

Answer: I am using SO version 1.3.1002.

I am still stumped.

Thanks for your suggestions.

You want to get off version 1.3.1002 as soon as you can. There is a known
bug in that build that will screw up your pricing. I don't remember the
exact issue, just that it's very bad.
