HELP! POS with XPe on Failed Hard Drive Mark Kalmus 03-03-2008

We suffered a hard drive failure over the weekend with our Casio QT8000 POS
system. The Toshiba hard drive suddenly lost database connectivity and then
failed to boot, and the system threw an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error with
each boot attempt. The system would not boot in Safe Mode, nor were we able
to get it to boot to a CD drive running an XP Pro installation CD. Pulling
the drive and testing it on diagnostic equipment seems to indicate arm
failure (clicking, no spinning). The drive did not have any applications
installed other than Microsoft Point of Sale v.2.0. The system was
purchased in Denver from Best Buy For Business 18 months ago as a bundle
with POS already installed; it is no longer under warranty.

We did not receive a Recovery CD or supporting software with the Casio
bundle, only a Quick Start guide. Sending the faulty HDD for data recovery
seems to be an expensive resolution, as there is minimal data on the drive,
only the original application, drivers and OS. Casio's website does not
have any support options for POS systems unless you are an authorized Casio
dealer (and the only one we can find who answers the phone is in New
Jersey --- we are in Colorado). There is no online source for the necessary
drivers, BIOS updates, etc., on the Casio website.

The POS Manager application is installed on a separate PC so no transaction
data is lost; however, we need to replace the POS system's hard drive
(already purchased) and I am in need of the XPe image as well as all
necessary peripheral drivers (touchscreen, MSR, scanner, printer, drawer,
etc). All data from the Manager PC is backed up nightly on premises as well
as onto a company webserver offsite. We just never anticipated the one
machine that holds the least data having a failed hard drive.

We are looking for guidance on how to acquire a XPe installation CD or image
and peripheral drivers. Or do we just install an XP Pro image and then the
necessary drivers? Does anyone have the drivers for this bundle? I can
give you the peripheral specs if necessary.
