Greetings,
I am trying to setup Microsoft point sale software with some
difficulties and I am hoping someone here will be able to shed some
light on the problems I have:

I have a USB Metrologic bar code scanner, but when I try to configure
the POS objects, all I see is COM ports and no USB. The same goes with
my Star TSP700 printer that also controls the cash register. It is a
parallel port printer but I do not find any printer option in the
configuration wizard.

Any ideas are appreciated....

Thank you

Amerdsp,

You probably don't need to do anything for the scanner. If you go into =
Notepad, scan something and the correct numbers show up, you're good to =
go. No setup needed.

You need to install your printer first. We always use the Windows =
drivers for Star printers and it will appear in the list of peripherals. =
Here's Star's website and the driver download on the upper left.
http://www.starmicronics.com/

You'll need to setup the drawer in the printer's properties, not MSPOS.

Lance,

That won't work. The open/close drawer commands only work with OPOS =
devices.

An option we just started playing with is to use a serial or USB drawer =
and install the OPOS device for it only and use the Windows driver for =
the printer, as we're not wild about OPOS.

Did you set an option in SO Manager to "Share OPOS" devices for the =
lockup problem? SO Manager | File | Configuration | Options tab | POS =
options section | check the "Share the OPOS printer..."

Also make sure to uninstall the Windows driver for the printer as OPOS =
is a little testy about that.

Jeff,

On a similar topic, I have a Star TSP600 printer with USB port. I
iniitially tried using the Windows driver but wasn't able to make use
of the "pop cash drawer" parameter inside the individual tender
properties. I only want the drawer to pop for cash transactions and
not credit cards. So I figured my only option is to install the OPOS
driver. I needed the assistance of Star tech support to get the
printer to simulate a COM port through a USB connection. Everything
seemed to be working fine except the printer randomly freezes during
receipt printing and usually requires that the pc be rebooted. It
seems to happen about every 20 to 50 transactions. The issue is
stumping me but I suspect it has something to do with the COM port
emulation. I'd like to try the Windows driver but believe I won't =
have
the option to control drawer opening by tender type. Do you know if
it's possible to use a Windows driver and control the drawer as I =
want?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This problem is
driving me nuts.

a similar topic, I have a Star TSP600 printer with USB port. =20
I
iniitially tried using the Windows driver but wasn't able to make =

use
of the "pop cash drawer" parameter inside the individual=20
tender
properties. I only want the drawer to pop for cash=20
transactions and
not credit cards. So I figured my only =
option is to=20
install the OPOS
driver. I needed the assistance of Star tech =
support=20
to get the
printer to simulate a COM port through a USB =
connection. =20
Everything
seemed to be working fine except the printer randomly =
freezes=20
during
receipt printing and usually requires that the pc be =
rebooted. =20
It
seems to happen about every 20 to 50 transactions. The =
issue=20
is
stumping me but I suspect it has something to do with the COM=20
port
emulation. I'd like to try the Windows driver but =
