I would like to be able to exempt items for different levels of taxation
while still using "tax by customer." Rather than taxable or non-taxable, I
need to be able to exempt from federal and state separately.

Thanks,

Jeff,

Because staff have to remember which products are exempt from which tax.
For me, POS is all about automation: scan, total, tender.

An old question, but I have it too. I'm using tax by item but I also have
tax exempt customers, some of whom are resale and others are
govt/church/charity. For tax reporting purposes, these are different.
Tendering a taxable item to them unsets "taxable" and sets the TAX1 reason
code, neither of which gives me any means to differentiate them. It seems
like I have to remove the exempt flag from all the customers and rely on our
cashiers to get it right. Is that what people are doing? Seems like there
should be a better way.

Also, it looks like only the tax change reason codes are recorded with the
transaction, and not the actual sales taxes applied. This true?
