Mark,
It seems like the Possum service isn't running. This has to be running to
log in. If you restart your machine it should start automatically. Or you
could try running it manually. From a command line type "net start possum".
If you're running Vista, make sure you open the command prompt "as
administrator".
If this doesn't work check your event log for more info.
