Jameer,
You have 3 options;
1) Buy a wireless netbook or laptop and install the RMS program onto it. =
Net book or laptop. ~$250 and up + $0
2) Buy a scanner that has memory and can create a .csv file and import =
that file into the PI. Metrologic MK9535BT ~$400 +
3) Buy a smart wireless handheld scanner and software. Symbol MC3000 =
series and Newest Tech software ~$1100 + 500

If you choose option 1 (netbook on a wireless network), what happens when you
lose your network connection and can no longer communicate with the RMS
database? Store Ops Manager does not have a offline mode, so you can't do
your physical inventory in a disconnected mode and sync it up later.
I am VERY leery about using RMS on a wireless network, for exactly this
reason. RMS gets really cranky if it loses it's network / database connection
for even a moment.
I would be very curious to know other people's experiences with using RMS on
a wireless network, particularly the POS application.
Also, I know from personal experience that New West's mobile solution was
difficult to implement, and the version I used in 2007 was full of bugs (at
one point, it was using the MSRP for the item cost). If you go that route,
proceed with caution.

Bill,
If you lose connection, you lose what you are working on, so save =
frequently. For long processes, setup a timer for a reminder.
But the whole purpose is to have good connections in the store in the =
first place. Depending on the size and situation, one may have to run =
multiple access points within the store. One of our clients has 5 access =
points + the wireless router, its an old building with brick walls and 3 =
stories tall.
We have 2 clients with stores that I can think of that run entirely =
wireless and many that run sidewalk/tent/parking lot sales that run =
fine. Some have put an access point under the signage with a long CAT5e =
cable running to a router/switch.
We even have a store that has a mobile repair van using a laptop at a =
university that uses the campus' wireless to connect back to the main =
store for its database and cc authorizations.
