Printer/Cash Drawer question Brad 11-14-2006

I just have a general question that I want to confirm my thoughts on and
since this place is full of knowledgable people that have been doing this a
lot longer than I then I though I would ask for input.

I have several liquor stores where I have implemented RMS that use the
functionality to ask whether to print a receipt or not for the customer
simply as a paper saving option as most people don't want a receipt. Is
there any way you can use a windows print driver for you receipt printer,
select "Do not print a receipt" during the tender process and still get the
cash drawer to pop open.

I hear pros and cons about OPOS and windows drivers and am basically curious
if the above can be achieved. I use Star printers under OPOS for this reason.

Thanks,

Brad

Not sure if its possible with a windows driver, but it definitely is possible
when using OPOS.

With OPOS, even if you select "DO NOT PRINT RECEIPTS" through Store
Operations Manager, the cash drawer will still POP. You can still print the
last recript upon customer request by pressing SHIFT-F11.

You can also print any receipt by pressing F4, which will bring up the
journal viewer, just select the receipt you want to print, and click "PRINT"

Arthur, I do not think this can be done. If I select 'Do Not Print Receipt'
in Manager, the OPOS button is grayed out. You are correct that the cash
drawer will still fire, but when I try to print a receipt, I get an OPOS
error. This has been discussed many times in here. However, if it does in
fact work for you, give me some additional details.

Thanks,
Kinnard
