When you say HQ I'm not sure if you're talking about your company's
physical headquarters or the HQ software that is part of RMS. If you
don't already have a HQ license you'll definitely want to purchase one
and then you'll set up an independent store database and the 2 stores
will be linked through the HQ software. You should be able to access
the HQ software across the T1 but it will be pretty slow and will
probably lose connection to the database frequently. You are much
better off using Remote Desktop to log into your SBS 2005 system and
then run HQ Manager there. The POSs don't access HQ directly. They
communicate with the local store db which in turn communicates with
the HQ db via the HQ client.
If you are thinking of operating a single store instance and then
running POSs remotely, the short answer from my experience is
absolutely not. It's more an issue of latency than bandwidth for a T1
line. I used to operate 2 stores connected by a T1 line through the
same ISP and it left a lot to be desired. I believe, although I can't
be certain, that the POS is not supported for a WAN connection and you
may not even be able to start the application. Even if you can get it
to work I believe the performance will be horribly slow and
essentially unusable especially if you have a large database of
customers and/or items. The HQ software is ideally suited for your
type of scenario.
