Run-time error during offline DB sync Terrible Tom 06-30-2008

Both registers get the same error:

---------------
Run-time error '-2147217900 (80040e14)':

OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "(null)" returned message "Login
timeout expired".
---------------

I am able to successfully connect to the offline DB without issue from the
Admin program. Obviously, both registers connect to my live DB without
issue. What is going on?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,
Do you have a lot of customers or items in your database. I mean extreme
amounts like more than 400,000?

TT,

Make sure the logged in user has registry access to the RMS keys.

Note For proper synchronization to occur, the Windows user should be
one of the following:

=95 An administrator user
=95 A nonadministrator user who has full control permission on the
following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftRetail Management SystemStore
Operations

Specifically, the nonadministrator user should have full control
permission on the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftRetail Management SystemStore
OperationsPOSUser

This situation will allow nonadministrator users to synchronize back
from RMS Terminal Offline Mode.

To allow RMS Terminal Offline Mode to function correctly when you run
POS from a nonadministrator Windows user account, follow these steps:

1. While you are logged on to Windows under an administrator account,
open the registry editor. To do this, click Start, click Run, type
REGEDIT, and then click OK.

2. Locate and then right-click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftRetail Management SystemStore
OperationsPOSUser

3. Click Permissions, and then click Advanced.

4. Locate or create the permissions entry or entries that apply to the
nonadministrator account or accounts that will run POS in offline
mode, click the entry, and then click Edit.

5. Under the Allow column for this user, click to select the Full
Control checkbox.

6. In the dialog boxes, click OK to apply the settings.

Regards,

Jeff

Hi Terrible Tom,

Did you ever find an answer to this problem. I have a site with the same
issue. Administrator connects to both the live and offline databases fine.
I can alternate between the two and the POS runs fine.

I get [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).]SQL Server does not exists or
access denied.

I'm using the standard 'sa' username and password.

I had an issue getting backup database to sync and had to set a port 1433
exception in the firewall to get it to work.
