Sales Data .bck file & how to append it to newly created file PRJ 05-29-2007

Through a series of events too distressing to go into here we seem to have
lost a .bck file created from exisiting sales history when we needed to
re-install RMS on our office server. What we do have is sales data for the
past few weeks, and a .bck file from 3 months ago.

The question is how we would go about integrating the 3 month old .bck file
into the current data in RMS. Our RMS guy is not sure how to do it, or if it
can be done. If integration is not possible, is there a way to substitute the
older file (a year's sales) for the newer data (only a month)???

WineGuy,

First, are you sure that you've deleted the files? Simple un-installing =
and/or re-installing does not delete the database.
Search your hard drive for *.mdf and *.ldf files.

Not sure I understand, did you delete the sales info from your database =
prior to your current backup? =20

Otherwise, it will be contained in your most recent backup file.

If you are asking to merge the files together, I've never tried it, but =
it can be done.

What happened was that the RMS guy was trying to set up a mirror array for me
on the server and 'inadvertantly' erased all data on the one drive where it
had been stored. He said he had backed everything up to either the floor
system or my laptop, but I can't find a .bck file from that time frame,
except a relatively small one (6gb) that is probably only the data collected
while the POS was in offline mode..

We were not routinely making backup files because he had told me that all
data was always available on both the POS system and the server. (Actually,
the reason I wanted the mirror was for an automatic backup and he had argued
that I didn't need it). Now I find that his statement did not include sales
data (I am not happy!).

Anyway, he is coming by to see if he can find any other backup files on either
the POS system or my laptop, but we may have lost 3 months of sales data. I
just want to know that we can integrate the last found backup into what has
been collected since the server drive was erased. He sounds unsure as to
if/how to do that.

One more question.....

If the sales data for that 3 month period was lost does that mean that all
inventory (on hand) information is now incorrect, or would the sales have
subtracted at the time and still be reflected correctly today?

Hi WineGuy....what bck file did you use when you reinstalled RMS (on your
current installation) the "sample" bck file that comes with the software or
the 3-month old bck file? If the latter, the 3-month old bck file, you
reinstated your inventory levels from three months ago and all sales from the
reinstall are subtracting from those 3-month old levels; I'd bite the bullet
and do a complete store physical inventory to account for the 3-month loss
and have your accountant do the necessary journal entries.....and seriously
reconsider your association with your "RMS guy" that if I understood you
correctly told you you don't need a backup and then went ahead and
inadvertently lost your data....the more backups the better, and every now
and then do a backup onto a USB flash drive to take home (also a good idea to
create your backup file names referencing the date of the backup such as
WineGuyBackupNov252007)....hope this helps.
