Is there a safe and secure way to keep credit card numbers on file in the POS?

Hello Lindsey,

Take a look at Card Vault from New West Technologies:
http://www.newestech.com/POS/RMS/StoreOperations/CardVault.htm . There is a
free version that provides the functionality you're looking for; there is
also a professional version, available through your reseller, which provides
re-settlement functionality.

That's sort of what I need... I don't need to save every number, though. We
have a few customers who want to keep their credit card on file with us, so
that we can charge purchases to their card without physically having it.

What software do you use for your accounting? I use quickbooks and it allows
you to store credit card info for a client, and process payments directly
through quickbooks. This may cause some confusion if RMS is integrated with
QB though unless you enter a manual adjustment onto the customer's account in
RMS.

QuickBooks accounting only works with Intuit’s merchants services the TPI
SmartPayments software allows you to use your existing merchant account. We
have Plug-in’s for both QuickBooks and RMS so you can use the same merchant
account. Also our SmartPayments Server software securely stores the credit
card numbers so that you can re-charge the account without re-entering the
number.
