I'm in the process of switching to RMS. My current setup enables me to have 2
cashiers man a single register by having two seperate cash drawers. We don't
run a rigid task system and one cashier can be out helping a customer while
the other rings someone in and vice-versa. Can RMS support something like
this?

I do know that the registers can be configured to use two cash drawers.
I think you may have to write a hook that says, if this person is
logged in, use cash drawer 1, otherwise use cash drawer 2. You might
not have the level of control that you currently have or are expecting.

I've been able to write a few little tweaks in VB6.0 to customize my
setup. You may be able to do the same. Or base it off the second
receipt printer.

My cash drawer is piggy-backed off of my parallel receipt printer.

There's a little more for you to think about, but I don't know if it
fully addresses your question. My assumption is that each cashier has a
dedicated cash drawer but may or may not be up front ringing at a said
point in time, as they may be stocking/cleaning, otherwise.

I can't decipher if the question is two cash drawers or if RMS will allow
two different cashiers to log into the same cash drawer.

On that note, I can't answer about the two distinct drawers but can say we
only use one cash drawer and all cashiers use it. We can change to a
different chaser during the sale by logging back in and have no
difficulties.

RMS will support 2 cash drawers. Each Cashier can be assigned to use a
specific drawer. Here's the problem - if two cashiers that are working at
the same time are both assigned the same drawer, you lose the separation.
Also, RMS is not going to produce a separate Z Report for each drawer, so
even though the two cashiers would have separate 'banks', the register is
combining their sales.
