Hi,
I have been using Microsft RMS for Past year and a half for operations
at my small speciality grocery store. I have had a fair smooth
experience with RMS during this time, aside from a few lockups and
crashes every now and then. Couple of days ago, my system crashed in a
middle of a transaction, and immdiately restarted. Both Manager and
POS modules were running on the computer at the time. Cashier notified
the the Supervisor about the hold up in the processing of the
transaction. Supervisor mistakenly assuming that the system had froze
manually restarted the system while system was in process of booting
up from the crash. In the past we have had the system freeze and crash
and restart. But this time when the system finally booted up, We are
unable to get any module of RMS working again. We have tried system
restore without any luck. Also we have tried to run Microsoft Update.
But none of these have solve the problem. I would like to get help on
how to get the system up and running again. I have back up of the data
made minutes before the crash during a shift change. Currently we are
getting the following error messages when attempting to get RMS going
again:
These are the messages when attempting to start the system from the
state it was in right after the crash:

SQL Manager: Start-> Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -> Configuration Tools -

Error Pop Up Header : Microsoft Management Console
Error Pop Up Text : mmc Cannot open file :

this may be because the file does not
exist, is not on mmc console, or was created by a later version of
mmc. this may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights
to the file.
If attemping to update the computer thru Microsoft Update, The process
goes smoothly till XP SP3 update is applied and then the computer
starts becoming unpesponsive(esp. Internet Explorer) A lot of popups
for serious system problems. Also further updates thru Microsoft
Updates are not possible because Internet Explorer freezes up
Following Error messages pop up when attempting to run RMS in this
state of system
System Administrator: Module loads up, but Server is not connected.
Attempts to connect with the server for database connection produces a
error message as follows : Pop Up Header : Connect. Pop up Text : SQL

is turned off (Stopped). Attempts to starts the Server gives the
following error message : The request failed or the service did not
respond in a timely fashion. consult the event log or other applicable

Any help on how to go about fixing this system will be highly
appreciated. We are located in Phoenix Metro Area and any
recommendations about local support help will be nice too.
Thanks,
Manager,
