My Epson TM-T88IV receipt printer prints fine with a Test Page from the
Properties. My problem is that it has a delayed print using MS POS
software to print a receipt. It prints the store info pauses for a
good 10-15 seconds then prints the remainder of the receipt. Also, I
have not figured out how to make the cash drawer kick.

Finally got it to kick the drawer and hold that setting (which it
wasn't doing). However, even with a test page print I get a very long
delay (15 seconds) before any printing starts. It then prints the
store info and pauses for another 15 seconds before printing the
remainder of the receipt.

It sounds like you are using Windows drivers. If that is the case, try
turning the print quality down. Also, if you are printing a logo, try
turning that off.

We use OPOS drivers with Epson TM-T88 printers. OPOS driver are
generally faster than Windows drivers, although there can still be a
delay. I've never seen anything more than about 5 seconds though.

What printer interface are you using? Parallel, Serial or USB?

What setting are you reffering to that that was finally held? Is that
in the Windows printer driver or in MSPOS?

I should note that I haven't touched MSPOS since it came out of Beta by
the way...

TitanMan,

This may not be any help but see my post on the 24/08/2006 (printer speed)

I have posted on numerous occasions mentioning this problem with RMS and the
TMT88 printers. I know your problem is with MSPOS but the concept must be the
same. The delay you are getting of 15 seconds sounds excessive but i have
seen this every now and again. Generally the delay for me is a couple of
seconds but even this can be extremely irritatating in a quick throughput
environment.

I have been advised to try numerous things in the past which dont seem to
have made much difference to me but i have listed a couple below they may
help you.

In the epson Opos driver click on the device settings for the drawer - there
is a radio button that as standard is set to low, change this to high. If
this makes no difference look at upping the baud rate of the opos driver and
the TMT88 - as standard they are set to 9600, try changing to 38400 or at
least 19200.

See how you go, good look you are going to need it

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the help but I was up until 3 am last night and resolved both the
print speed and drawer kick issues. The drawer kick was at first solved by
clicking a check mark on the Operation tab of the Printers properties. This
was while I was using the Advanced Windows Printer driver. I tried to put
Epson's OPOS on the machine (and add the printer device in the OPOS software)
but was still having problems until I deleted the printer and started again.
This got the speed issue fixed but broke the kick drawer problem (which, in
hindsight, broke when the Windows driver was removed). Finally, I went back
into the OPOS software and added the cash drawer as a device and let the
master device be the printer driver. Tested it in MSPOS and it worked (at
which point I cried from lack of sleep and frustration). It has worked fine
all day.
