Howdy all-

I am trying to set up a loyalty program where a customer gets a free $5 gift
card for each $100 she spends. I can’t figure out how to set this up in the
system. I want to “sell” the gift card on the transaction in question, but
sell it at $0 and allow it to be redeemed for $5 later. It does not seem like
I can do this…

As an alternative, I can create serial numbers for my $5 voucher item and
mark them as sold, and then just give out the card with transactions that
qualify, but then I have no way to link the card to a transaction and this
could obviously lead to abuse. Also, I would not be able to enter a proper
expiration date for the voucher (30 days from the original transaction). This
is not a viable solution for me.

Am I missing something? Is there another way to give away a voucher with a
sale?

Thanks for any help!

Jason

You're right that if you discount the $5 gift card 100% then it will
have $0 value. You can add another item to the transaction which has a
value of negative $5 so it will act as a counterbalance. You configure
the item properties of your $5 gift card to have the other item be
attached as a "tag along item".

I'm not sure how you can create them in advance and then have them
attached to transactions. I'm afraid you'll still need to ring them up
manually at the time of sale.

Jason,

Sell the Gift cert/voucher at a discount;

Must have CustomerSource access to read it.

I do not have CustomerSource. Can someone cut ans paste it for me or
summarize it?

Based on the other response above, it looks like I can't use a discount, or
the voucher will have no value...

Thank again... Jason

I have an alternative suggestion that I've suggested to our stores who donate
gift cards. I suggested creating a non-inventory item called Donation, and
setting the option to enter the price at the POS. In your case, you can
create a non-inventory item called Discount. Ring up the gift card for $5
then ring up your new Discount item as -$5 to offset this and your Gift Card
will have the full $5 on it.

Just a suggestion.
