Work Order Partial Close Problem Ed in Ireland 02-07-2007

Does anyone know of a way to close a partial Work Order where the deposit is
not equal to the full amount.

For example-
Customer comes in and orders 4 pieces of furniture for $1000 and pays
deposit of $600.

3 pieces we have in stock and deliver them to customer, 1 piece out standing
on Purchase Order 10 week delivery. 3 pieces delivered retail for $600 and
we would like to close them off the Work Order. If the Order had a deposit
for the full amount no problem. As POS is, it will not let you do a Partial
Pick Up if the order is not paid in full.

Thanks in advance,

Edward Jensen

Can you convert it to a layaway?
Layaways allow partial pickups with not all paid.

Thanks Mickie,

But the Layaway functioned similar to the Work Order. If NO deposit when
tendering POS will only ask for what is being partial picked up. On a
deposit less than full it will ask for the remainder of the total to be paid
prior to pick up even if the total value of the picked up items is less than
the deposit amount.

The work around for this is confusing but here goes...

Open the workorder. Go to F9 and manually override the deposit amount with
the amount you want to leave on deposit. Then process the partial pickup.

For instance, let's say the customer orders two items, each costing $500
($1000 total). You take a 50% deposit with the balance due on delivery
(ignore sales tax for now). One item arrives and you want to enter a partial
pickup. Since you want to leave a $250 deposit on file for the open item, you
need to change the deposit amount from $500 to $250. Then process the item
pickup. It should charge the customer the balance due on their first
item--$250--and leave a deposit of $250 on file.

I really dislike the Microsoft handles workorders and deposits. This
solution can be confusing to remember when the customer is right in front of
you but at least it's a way to take care of your customer. Good luck.

I'd like RMS to read my mind, too.

:)

What you are describing would require that you tell RMS how much of the
deposit you want applied to each line item on the work order. That sounds
like more work than adjusting the deposit manually in the case of a partial
pickup. Since there are so many deposit scenarios, RMS can't really satisfy
all situations without some manual intervention. For example, in my business
if a customer deposits $500 like in the scenario you outlined, I would
typically not charge a $250 deposit when the first item is picked up. The
customer has already shown good faith, and I am confident they will pay for
item #2 when it arrives.

RMS does a good job of making sure that the picked up items are fully paid
for at least. As for requiring additional deposits - that needs to be left
up to a human at the merchant (as scary as that sounds).
