What you are describing would require that you tell RMS how much of the
deposit you want applied to each line item on the work order. That sounds
like more work than adjusting the deposit manually in the case of a partial
pickup. Since there are so many deposit scenarios, RMS can't really satisfy
all situations without some manual intervention. For example, in my business
if a customer deposits $500 like in the scenario you outlined, I would
typically not charge a $250 deposit when the first item is picked up. The
customer has already shown good faith, and I am confident they will pay for
item #2 when it arrives.
RMS does a good job of making sure that the picked up items are fully paid
for at least. As for requiring additional deposits - that needs to be left
up to a human at the merchant (as scary as that sounds).
