OK, just need a bit of advice here please. I have Quickbooks 06-07, my
accountant has Quickbooks 07/8, and i have
quicken payroll v12 (with manually updated pay scales). I was doing
the pays in payroll v12, decided to give it my accountant to do - they
did it in quickbooks 2007-8, and now because they have been making
mistakes i want to take it back over doing it myself. My problem
arises in that they want me to do it in quickbooks 7/8 and i only have
6/7? Obviously i want to avoid spending $500 a year to keep upgrading
QB. Will i be able to import the file into the older version? If so
and i make changes to it, when i send it back will they be able to
work on it in the newer version?

My other question is concerning the pay program part of quickbooks,
how does it compare to quickpayroll? I am very familiar with
quickpayroll and would prefer to use that, but if switching to QB is
very easy I should bite the bullet and learn the new one.

Thanks in advance

You will not be able to import 07-08 files back into 06-07. The files
are not backwards compatible. And 07-08 has the tax scales and
documents for the ATO when you do your end of year activities (payment
summaries, files to ATO etc). 06-07 files do not produce these in
approved ATO format for the 2007-08 financial year.

It is pretty similar, although the award functionality is not
available and you cannot make historical changes to previous payroll
cheques if you have made an error that it discovered after the last
pay you ran.

Give it a try - you can download a trial version that you can use for
90 days from www.quicken.com.au. You may need some help setting it up
- while your are there look at the Find a Consultant page for someone
near you.

I forgot to add that only Payroll Premier v16 has the ATO approved
documents as well. You face an upgrade whatever you do - you only need
one upgrade if you move to integrated payroll in QuickBooks.
