Checks: using old stock from another application Carla Fong 04-11-2009

Hello -

I'm very new to QuickBooks, we just bought a copy of the Pro+Payroll to
try out.

We are currently using One-Write Plus but the Federal payroll tables are
about to change and Peachtree no longer supports OWP. We tried
Peachtree's accounting package and the user interface was clunky and a
royal PITA. Also, I have come to hate Peachtree and their 'support'.

QuickBooks looks a little better - but I'm still playing with it. We
have 8 employees and have not activated payroll yet - I hope it's not awful.

Anyhow, here's my question: "Is there a way to use up my existing stock
of 8 1/2 x 11" checks (which have stubs at top and bottom and the check
in the middle) or do I have to purchase new checks with the check on top
and the stubs in middle and bottom to be compatible with QB?

I thought the 'templates' might be appropriate, but alas there are none
for checks.

My reply address is spam-trapped, so replies to the newsgroup would be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Carla
Zippers are too slow, buttons too clumsy and Velcro makes too much noise
in a movie theatre.

They might work. QB checks are not customizable. You have 3 choices of style
and yours sound like the voucher check style. Try printing a check to plain
paper and select the Voucher check style. Then compare it with the actual
layout of your check stock. That will be the only way you can determine if
your check stock will work with QB.

The only "1-check per page" option have in QB2009 is their "voucher"
style, the other options are 3-to a page.

The "Voucher" check option I am presented with has the check at the top
of the page and 2 stubs in the middle and bottom positions. I can't find
any other style of voucher check that puts the 'check' in the middle
position.

Try using the 3 to a page and use the middle check. I think it will only
print the check with no tear off voucher. You are probably stuck with QB
checks or get them from NEBS. If I remember NEBS was less money also.

You can also tear off the top stub & print using the voucher option - this
will at least print the check & one voucher. It worked for one of my clients
who wanted to use up their check stock which had the check in the middle
like yours. Our experience was that the 2nd stub just didn't print, so we
were able to print multiple checks without any problem.

Scott out.
