Well, I said I'd never used cc's... :)

I'd only guess you got the "benefits" of an update that changed behavior
then. I quit updating as well quite some time ago so don't know if you
can roll back any more or not...

Then can we all assume you are still running a DOS version of Qucikbooks.

Are you refering to the Transaction ID?

Try selecting Customers>>Credit Card Processing activities>>Manage Merchant
service and run a basic search on a recent date range. Is the Transaction ID
filled for all transactions in that time frame?

No, this is a field on the merchants copy of the credit card receipt.
The field has the header "Quickbooks Trans No". It simply a sequential
number on each credit card transaction. It also used to appear in the
"make deposits" window on the corresponding line entry. That entry is
also no longer there. I did nothing (that I know of) to change this

I'll probably have a cc payment to process this week and I'll make a note to
look at the screen carefully when I process it.

I do know that I have NEVER had a transaction number flow onto the Make
deposits line when completing the cc deposit so I don't know where this is
coming from.
