Do I have to enter a bill every time I spend a few bucks for
something?

Is there a way to enter a cash payment without making out a bill?

i.e. Post Office or small hardware store purchase.

Assuming you have Quickbooks 2007 click on the Write Checks icon. Change
the account to Petty Cash assuming you have this set up. Then enter
whatever you bought with appropriate account it is charged against.

All I do is collect all the petty cash reciepts on a bulldog clip then
once a month or whenever, just open up the petty cash account and add
transactions as a direct entry to the account. use the "split" button to
assign to the correct expense account.
Job done.

in fact, depending on how lazy I am feeling, rather than enter them on
the exact the purchase was made I just chose a day and staple as many
reciepts as will fit onto an A4 piece of paper and just enter them all
on the same day.

Job done even quicker.
