I would like to import orders into QB. Seems like IIF files might be
the way to go, but how do I handle customers - some will be new, some
will be in QB already. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Are you importing the orders from another program? There are some 3rd
party applications that help--go to marketplace.intuit.com to search
for them.

Please log in for more thread options Be careful here. If you import, and a name or item or account doesn't
exist, QuickBooks will create it for you, sometimes with unintended
consequences.
Create a backup of your data file, and test first. I have done this
numerous times, and for the most part runs trouble free.

I agree with Gary E on IIF imports. If you are not careful you can
create a real mess. I worked with a QuickBooks user this week that
had imported their lists from Peachtree to QuickBooks. We spent a
couple of hours cleaning up duplicate names that were created during
the process that corrupted his company file.
You should also check out our product the 01 Transaction Pro Import
Wizard at http://www.baystateconsulting.com/products/01TxnWizardDemo.asp. If the customer exists in your company file this tool will add the
transaction to the exiting customer. If the customer does not exist
this tool will create it. In addition, this tool allows you to import
my customer account number if there is a chance that the same customer
may appear in a slightly different format than what your company file
has (eg your import file has John A. Smith and your company file has
John Smith).
