I have no idea if this group is the right place to ask this but I'm gonna
try anyway.

I have a credit card reader (purchased through Intuit) hooked up to my PS2
port through my keyboard. What I mean is the reader has a splitter which my
keyboards PS2 connector plugs into and the whole thing plugs into the
computer.

Time has come to get a new keyboard after several years for coffee spills,
kid pounding Etc. The new keyboard I have in mind is USB interface not PS2.
Will this set up work if my keyboard plugs into a USB port and the card
reader plugs into the PS2 port? I assume it will but I don't wanna spring
for a new keyboard if, for some reason, it's not gonna work and I need to
buy a PS2 keybord.
TNX,
Dusty

You should be able to buy a new USB keyboard and still use your old PS2
style card reader. It is not dependent on the keyboard to function.

Try this, unplug the keyboard from the card reader and swipe a card. If it
properly reads the card and provides the info, then you can get a new USB
keyboard. If it doesn't work, then you need a new PS2 style keyboard.

Good luck

Your computer may throw up if it doesn't have a keyboard attached
somehow somewhere.

On my computer if the mouse and/or keyboard aree not connected it
will flash a warning at boot up and then stop.

Most older computers have BIOS settings that allow you to continue or stop
on errors, such as a keyboard error. I usually set my computers to continue
not stop on errors.

(Don't you just love the error message "Keyboard not found, press F12 to
continue")

Newer computers such as Dell Dimensions don't even come with PS2 ports as
all input devices are assumed USB

My computer says "Keyboard not found. Connect the Keyboard and
restart the computer."
