In QB 2007, is there a way to set up an item as a descriptive line so that
the amount column won't print anything?

I don't think so. Just type what you want in the description column
and space downwards before entering line items. I do this alot on
Estimates as a way to use headings.

I would say, you should not use an item, just put in the description
in the description box if you do not want any amount to show up
