Invoicing or receipt or none? Fred 12-29-2008

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this question, apologies
if it isn't.

I have an account with Easynews which is a US company. I believe it
is based in Florida. Is there a requirement to supply an invoice or
receipt? They say a printed version of my bank statement will have to
do.

Just that in the UK some form of receipt or invoice is mandatory and
this is the first time I've ever been refused documentation by a US
company.

Certainly an interesting question. I think with automatic credit card
billing companies did away with sending invoices and/or receipts. This
leaves you with just your bank or credit card statement.

One of my clients ordered a year long subscription to an internet service.
They were offering a special price if you ordered it online. They quoted one
price, but charged the credit card another price. When I called to get it
corrected they told me to send a copy of the credit card statement showing
the actual charges. So I guess this is the new policy.

Many thanks. You wouldn't get away with it in the UK! There's also
the complication of the tax point or tax date. The payment date is
unlikely to be the same date as the transaction. We also have
something called VAT where an invoice must be issued with the VAT
number.

Thanks again.
