Currently I need someone to be able to work on the same company file
as the one on my computer, however, we won't be accessing it at the
same time. Really she needs to do the majority of the work and then I
check off on it and make any adjustments then show them to her for
further review.

Do I need multi-user licenses? How would I do this without a multi-
user license from different computers on the same file?

Technically you would need a second license if both of you need to use
Quickbooks to stay compliant with the user license.

An alternative would be to have QB installed on one computer and the other
person use remote access (LogMeIn Free would work fine) to access the file &
the single installation of QuickBooks.

Or setup up a third computer that has the program installed on and both of
you use remote access to that 3rd computer.

My client purchased Quickbooks 08/09 and it came with three licences.
She didn't buy the multi-user version so she has to exit the company
file for me to access it and vice-versa. It's a nuisance and we all
wish she'd bought the multi-user version but as you and your colleague
will be working at different times it might not be as much of a hassle
for you. Check to see how many licences you get with the software
because you probably won't be able to activate a second time on your
machine if the software only comes with one.

The US version is a single user program but can be installed &
activated/registered on multiple machines. This was intended to allow people
to install the program on a desktop and laptop owned by the same person. I
have several versions of QB and due to reformating HDs, purchasing new
computers have been installed numerous times without any difficulty. Just
make sure you are not installing the software in such a way that you are
violating the EULA. That is up to the purchaser to monitor not Intuit.

If your client bought QuickBooks 2008-09 Premier, she indeed did buy a
multi-user version. The fact that you are not able to use it either
means that it was not instaleld properly, or most likely, you have not
set up several users and the file is in single user mode.

Check on the file menu and toggle the item to Switch to Multi User mode.
Before that, check the Company Menu for Set Up Users and make sure there
are at least two users set up.

There is plenty of help available for you in Australia or New Zealand if
you still can't get it to work. Go to www.quicken.com.au and look for
Support for Find a Consultant or something similar.
