Something changed in our quickbooks settings. We have quicks books
premier Manufactering 2004 running on Windows XP.

When it is started it says something about (multi user)(admin) in the
title bar, then it pops up a dialog box saying something about adding
a new user yes or no. but that dialog box is up for only a split
second before all of quick books is shut down.

Funny thing is we never set up mulitiple users. We have always had it
running on 1 computer and there never was a username or password to
access it.

My question now is, how can I get quick books back to how we had it
before. Because now when we start it up it doesn't let us click on
anything and then shuts down.

Help!

I have some new information on this "problem that may help someone to
help me diagnosis the problem. I installed quickbooks on another
computer. I then opened up our data file with absolutely no
problems. No pop ups asking me if I want to create more users and
then giving me no time to do so before shutting itself down.

I feel really strongly that somehow we inadvertently reset the program
to be in the mulituser mode. Because like I said in the title bar of
quickbooks it is displaying

QuickBooks Premier Manufacturing and Wholesale Edition 2004 (multi-
user)(admin)

Like I said we never set it up to be multi user that I know of and I
don't know how to undo this and I don't even have a chance to look
around.

Is there a way to start quick books up in safe mode or somehow so I
could try to reset this problem.

thanks

Is the file open on the other computer by any chance? Can you go to
the other computer, open the file, select File>Single User Mode then
Close Company and exit the program? It maybe that the previous opening
of the company file didn't close properly.

No the file is not open on the other computer. It was doing this
before I had installed it on the second computer. So the settings for
single vs. mulit is stored in the back up file? I can try this but I
am just confused as to why I can open it on one computer and not the
other.

Go to any computer that could open the file. Don't try and open the file,
instead open one of the sample files. Set the sample multi-user. Then set the
sample single user. Now open your company file. Should work.
