I've used QB Pro in my business for a few years so I'm fairly
comfortable with it for that usage. Now I'm starting to take over the
books for political committee in our town.

I've always posted payments against an invoice. How do I post
contributions when there isn't an invoice? Or do I have to just
create on regardless after we receive a donation?

When there is no Invoice just use a Sales Receipt to record the money
received. Just remember to use the correct Items to point the money to the
correct g/l account.
