I have a problem printing a partial page of checks in Quickbooks 2007 on my
new Canon MF3240 laser printer. QB does it's part but the printer reads an
error for incorrect paper size loaded. I posted in a printers group (see
below) and the only suggestion I got was a software fix. I've been trying to
configure the printer in QB but have had no success. Checking to see if
anyone here knows of a solution.

From comp.perphs.printers - "How to clear or reset Canon MF3240"

I have a Canon MF3240 laser printer. Works great. One of it's main functions
is printing checks. Problem is- partial pages or single checks. When feeding
a partial page into the MP Tray, the print job goes through, but then the
printer calls an error and requests the correct paper size. I want to then
clear the print job (ignore the non-error) and move on but can't find any
setting to do so. Does anyone know how to do so?
I know I am supposed to use a check "caddy". But don't want to. Too
cumbersome. Want a faster process.
Currently I keep a scrap piece of paper nearby. I just run it through after
printing the check. But this wastes toner.
I have tried hitting the reset button, the Stop/Cancel button, going into
the "System Monitor" menu and finding the print job and hitting reset, etc.
I have tried using the Machine Status key, scrolling to "TX Status" to
delete any documents stored in memory, but the reading is "None".
I have tried to use the software to reset the paper size. The software does
not allow a paper size that is shorter than it is wide. Besides, I don't
want to have to fiddle with the print setting every time I print a single
check. It would be faster to find and use the check caddy.
Canceling the print job in OS is not applicable: the print job has already
been executed.
I just want to clear the print job from the printers memory. The only way
I've been able to do this is to disconnect the power. This cannot be good
for the machine.

****
Someone suggested working with the software, which I tried:

I can get the "load correct paper size" problem to go away if I
setup the printer to print envelopes, but the software (QuickBooks 2007)
will not orient the print correctly regardless on which combination of
settings I use. It prints starting in the center like a envelope. I tried
creating a custom form size for the printer (3.87 x 7.50), but it still
prints like an envelope. I tried the alignment feature in QuickBooks but it
is limited to 1/2" and I need to go almost 3". It doesn't matter if I feed
the printer in the center (sideways) or portrait.
I tried setting Paper Size to Letter and Output Size to Monarch and
selecting Manual Scaling at 100% - still prints like an envelope.

Can anyone here suggest a way to get Quickbooks and this Canon printer to
cooperate?

We don't. Maybe Canon does.

Me? I use voucher checks - they're all the same size.

If in your situation, I'd buy another printer (you can get a USB printer on
eBay for $30) and use it to print checks.

Here's a thought: You could convert to direct deposit for all your vendors
and employees and you wouldn't have print ANY checks!

You see, your problem is NOT the inability of the Canon printer to print
checks, your problem is getting a check printed.

That's okay; we're used to people who get half-way toward a solution without
realizing the road they took is a dead end.
