A search of the help file told the OP to go to File>>Switch to single user
mode. From the screen shot that was posted, that is not an option.

Going back to the desktop and switching modes sounds like a good idea UNLESS
making the backup file is what caused it to go into multi-user mode.

An alternative would be to copy the file from the desktop directly to the
laptop. Skip the backup/restore process.

You have an accountants review file pending. You cannot switch into single
user mode with an active accountants review file.

Thanks for all the input, guys.

I cannot uninstall IE7 because it's an integral component of Vista,
which means I cannot view help and am restricted to my old manual from
2001. It tells me about Accountants Reviews but not how to turn them
off.

So I've phoned Quicken and they tell me that QB2004 will not work on
Vista and I will have to spend $400 + to upgrade to 07/08. That, or
leave it all on my XP desktop.

So I've wasted around 4 hours trying to get this installed just so I
can have timer running so I can keep an accurate total of time spent
on each client while I'm out and about.

To turn off the Accountants Review go to File>>accountants review. One of
your options will be Cancel Accountants Review.

Do you remember creating the AR in the first place?

I know of people that have gotten QB 2004 to work on Vista. I believe one
trick was to run it in XP compatibility mode.

There are other tools that you can use. One that I like is MyHours:
http://www.myhours.com/ I see they have now added Cell phone support to
their program. You can't import into QB but they do have reports that you
can run to capture your time spent.

2004 will not work on Vista. Here's why:

For seven years Microsoft repeatedly warned developers that programs should
not write to the registry for program variables - or anything else. With
Vista, Microsoft implemented the rule to prevent malware from disabling the
operating system.

With QB2007 Intuit finally fell in line with the standard. In sum, QB2004
attempts to write to the registry and Vista won't let it.
