I know there are no longer upgrade versions of quickbooks, everyone pays the
same price...

So does this mean we can sell our older versions and the purchaser be legit,
since they are not needed to cover "upgrade" licenses anymore?

You can not sell what you never owned. You purchased a license to use only.
