 Been using Quickbooks Premier Edition 2005 - skipped 2006 update.
Will it make much difference if we use 2007 or is the cost rather
steep considering the upgrade benefit?

If you need my approval then go for it. Then again I'll be playing Gears of
War tonight not Halo. Nothing but the cutting edge for this guy.

No one can attempt to help you without knowing how you use QB and what
features you consider essential.

If 2005 satisfies all of your needs and you are not the type that feels the
need to upgrade every year then you probably can skip the 2007 upgrade too.
You will need to upgrade to 2008 if you are using the payroll service. If no
payroll, then you could keep using 2005 for a long time.

Are there features that 2007 offers that are not in 2005? Probably. There
were a lot of changes introduced with 2006 that you are already mising out
on. They revised the UI (I love it), Start with this page to compare the
2005-2007 features for your version:

This chart may help you decide if you are missing anything significant by
staying with 2005. Only you can decided based on your needs.

You could order the Trial version for the Premier Accountant program here:
http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/about_quickbooks/trials.jhtml to see if
there are features that you are missing by not upgrading.
