You can transfer the file 2 ways:

a) copy actual file to laptop via flash drive or other removable media. use
File>>open company option on laptop.
b) create a backup file *.qbb on desktop, transfer file to laptop and use
the Restore option to get to your data.

You only need to copy the file(s) associated with your company file. Don't
copy any sample files since they will be on the laptop after the
installation.

If you have a network connection, hook the machines together and copy
"company_name.q*" files from the desktop to the same subdirectory on the
laptop.

You can also as you suggest zip those files and then move them
physically by whatever means you have to do so.

Look for a file that ends in .QBW. This is the actual file that runs when
you open a company. Once you have QB reinstalled, find the QBW file on your
desktop and load that onto your laptop. Then just navigate from within QB to
that file and open it.

Sure sounds like somebody messed with your laptop while you weren't looking.

Although once I did have a MS Money file mysteriously disappear. I opened up
explorer, the file was there. It wouldn't open. Then when I looked again, it
wasn't there. It would not come up in a search. Had to restore a backup and
catch it up to present.

But for the whole program installation to disappear,
I think you had to have some "assistance" for that to happen.

Especially if you had a 2006 and 2007 version both installed, and for both
now to be gone.
