I want to take the laptop while I'm out of town for a few days and
attempt to revamp my QB file. I installed QB Pro 2006 on the laptop
which is the same version I have on my main system. I updated the
laptop and then copied my data file onto the laptop.

When I opened my data file QB said that the data file was created with
a newer version than what was installed. The version on the laptop
was R3 while my system is R12.

I tried checking for updates again and it came back saying there was
nothing to update. I tried resetting the updates and downloaded them
again and got the same results. Is there any way to manually update
QB Pro?

Thanks.

You can download the manual updates for 2006 from this website:
http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/helpcenter/index/ndxw_15_updates.aspx

I would double check your system. According to Intuit the last update for
2006 was R10 so I am not sure where your R12 is coming from.

Also, since you are using 2 machines with your files, I would turn on the
Shared updates feature. This will save the updates to your hard drive so
that they can be transfered to the laptop the next time there is an update.

R12 is the latest update for QB 2006. Intuit has revamped their
support site and made it more difficult to locate updates. And I
think the page you reference is from the old system which is
likely why it shows R10.

To get R12:

1. Go to:
http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/Default.aspx

2. Set the product version to Pro 2006

3. Click on "Updates & Downloads" on the menu at left.

That will get you to the page with R12. It's 90MB by the way.
So you might want to get that update file over a fast connection.

Thank you for posting the new link. I think it is a sign of poor website
design when they don't redirect new pages when you access the old pages.

Same way they design their flagship product, same attention to detail ...
