QB Pro 2007 won't open PDF... Mikel A. 10-08-2008

unless I install Adobe Acrobat? I have Foxit's PDF reader. It works for all
PDF files, yet QB won't produce a reconciliation report because Adobe isn't
installed (and won't be). Is there any way to point QB in the right
direction and cause it to use Foxit?

Thanks,
Mikel A.

Why did you remove it? It came bundled with QB. Because it came bundled, QB
expects it to be there. And why wouldn't it? IIRC it is listed as a
requirement on the box. So now your QB installation is broken. Get out your CD
and fix it. Or you can become a programmer and reverse engineer QB to find all
the places where it calls acrobat by name and change them to Foxit. Of course
you may have to rewrite Foxit to have the necessary hooks to work with QB. When
you start to play programmer, you have to finish it. And your fixed QB won't be
supported. You will have to tell everyone that you are using a custom
unsupported QB so they know the risk they have. Good luck.

A better question might be 'why wouldn't it use the default PDF reader?'

Why would I do all of this when I have a perfectly helpful reply just below
yours? And sans attitude, no less.

Speaking of 'hooks', in general does QB2009 have good data access from
external, custom written programs? For example, can somebody write a
.Net webpage that taps into QB data, and read and write back to those QB
files? thanks

I ran into the same problem when I reformated my hard drive last year. I
installed Foxit but not Adobe. I found that bank recs would not work unless
I installed Adobe.

So you will need to reinstall Adobe but make sure that you tell windows that
Foxit is your default pdf reader. QB WILL honor the default program for PDFs
and use Foxit. I know it does not make sense but it worked for me. Use the
