I will be buying a new laptop and QB Pro 2009 when I am next in the
States. I will also install it while there. I am wondering whether I
will be able to download updates, etc. while I am outside the States?

A US copy may not have features needed to comply with your country's income
tax and sales taxes without a lot of fudging to get the numbers right. For
example, the US and Canadian copies are very similar but the Canadian
version has the abilities to automatically account for the federal and
provincial sales tax regulations, and possibly other differences that I am
not aware of.

Or he could be an offshore service for USA books. Just like when you call
Intuit tech support and get connected to the Philippians.

Will you have a good internet connection? And do you expect the country you
are visiting to be putting restrictions on that use?

Excellent broad band internet connection here in Brazil with no
restrictions. Several years ago I bought a new version of QB and
couldn't register it because I was outside the States.
