After spending about three hours on the phone with QBPro installation
support, we concluded that it would be okay to uninstall .NET 2.0, run
the QBPro 2007 installation file - which would install .NET 1.1 (needed
only for the QBPro installation), then uninstall .NET 1.1 and
re-install .NET 2.0. This round of attempts failed (a) when the
software refused to recognise the licence and product numbers as valid
or (b) when attempts to install .NET 1.1 failed (error messages
aborting .NET 1.1 installation). We removed and reinstalled Visual C++
Redistributable, and did it all again, without success.
At this point, the support tech mentioned that they were getting a lot
of problems with XP Home, and asked if I had a machine with XP Pro
(mine is the only one still running XP Home)..
So I'm finishing up all the work this year with QBPro 2006, and then
I'll dump all my files to our external network storage device and spend
a weekend upgrading this machine.
I'll keep you posted.
