QBooks 5.0 with XP? Local Hero 08-08-2007

I am about to change to XP from 2000 and have been using an older
version of Qbooks Pro. The disc says 5.0 Release R7 on it and I
wrote on the disc that I registered it 7/1/00.
I only use the most basic functions in QBooks and I really don't need
to upgrade to a newer ver unless this one simply won't work with XP.
Intuit's phone support told me I have to get 2007 or 2006 if I could
find a new one in a store.
Would I really have to buy brand new software just to be compatible
with XP when XP first came out in 2001?
I did search for this answer but haven't found it...
Thanks,
John

You'll likely have to buy newer software but not necessarily the newest
version. I ran '99 on XP. Any version since then will work (at least
from my experience) and you may be able to find a very cheap older
version on Ebay.

I suspect this version I have is from 2000? I guess I'll just try
and go the Ebay route if it doesn't work.

Thanks,
John

Dunno. But, if you have an acquaintance with XP, you can (temporarily)
install QB on his machine for a test...

You could always run it in compatibility mode (W2K in your case) if
there are hick ups after installation.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/appcompat.mspx

I hope you saved the update70r7.exe (* see below) file because you need
the latest release you had applied otherwise a straight installation
from the bought CD may not open you QBB file.

(* I am using QB2000 and the latest update was 80r10.exe .
I presumed that yours would be called 70r7.exe .)

Save an additional copy of your QBB file and just try it.
