Ok this is the current setup:
1.One computer has quickbooks Pro 2004 installed, this is where all
accounting matters are done.
2. We have an accountant that lives more than 200 miles away.
3. We have an FTP server that is already connected to the net with an
address from one of the many DNS name services out there.

Ok this is what I want to accomplish:

1. The FTP server to be the centralized server for all quickbooks
activity. It will hold the file of data from quickbooks.

2. The user that works on the that has quickbooks installed will be
able to work as normal(like the datafile was still in her computer). In
reality she will be on a LAN with the FTP server, so it will be a
networked datafile.

3. The accountant will be able to log into the FTP server and download
the datafile, modify it and upload it again.

The FTP part is taken care off, i am worried more about the quickbooks
part. How do i setup or modify quickbooks so that i can have the
datafile on the ftp server and the user can still work with it. I
figure that i must map a network drive, but wonder how to do the
changes on quickbooks and what is the file needed to be moved(what
extension and where is it located?)

Thanks tons,

Super Coqui

How would you lock the file when the accountant has it downloaded and is in
the process of modifying it before uploading the modified file?

Currently the accountant takes turns to make changes when the personnel
are not in the office. The way it is setup at the moment, the
accountant needs to take remote ocntrol of the computer to be able to
make changes to the file.
